Hydrogen Blending Transformation Baselining

Abstract

Following the successful completion of Blending Implementation Plan (BIP) Phase 2A (Design) in 2025, and multiple Asset Records and Compatibility projects, valuable insights have been generated but remain fragmented. The project is required to consolidate findings from a range of work to date, close gaps and provide more granular impacts and cost/time estimates. This will provide a blend-readiness baseline to inform the roadmap for the subsequent survey and assessment phase as well as development of a Transformation Planning Tool, applicable for all GB network licensees.

The project offers the gas networks multiple opportunities for new learning, the outputs of which will be shared as per the NIA governance document.

The roadmap provides a structured understanding of how to progress evidence to execution with crucial learning opportunities on managing data gaps, sequencing, system and resource requirements, procurement strategy and efficiencies.

Development of a Transformation Planning Tool provides a structured, data-driven platform that enables networks to plan, manage and execute complex change programmes with confidence, accuracy and efficiency. WWU Asset Readiness AI Assessment (ARAIA) will provide valuable insights to WP3 while the tool will also help support their project, creating a mutually beneficial exchange of learnings. Overall, this project will provide learning that will help support network transitions by providing a flexible, end-state agnostic solution that is applicable across all GB network licensees.
