Hydrogen AGI Pipework Integrity Monitoring Phase 2

Abstract

This project proposes a structured approach to assess the integrity of AGI pipework for hydrogen service. It includes development of a screening tool based on representative AGI archetypes, execution of ECAs to define flaw tolerances and inspection intervals, and evaluation of NDT capabilities with respect to desired AGI performances. The project also reviews integrity management software to support increased digitalisation and monitors emerging technologies for hydrogen-related NDT developments.

This project will generate practical and strategic learning to support the safe transition of AGIs to hydrogen service. It will demonstrate how a screening tool can be used to rapidly assess AGI compatibility, reducing reliance on resource-intensive site-specific evaluations. The development and validation of archetype-based assessments will offer insight into how structural configurations respond to hydrogen-induced stress and fatigue, informing future design and maintenance strategies.

Engineering Critical Assessments will provide detailed understanding of flaw tolerance and inspection intervals under hydrogen conditions, contributing to the refinement of risk-based integrity management practices. Evaluation of non-destructive testing technologies will highlight the capabilities and limitations of current tools in detecting hydrogen-related degradation, guiding future inspection planning.

The review of integrity management software will identify digital solutions suited to hydrogen asset management and outline pathways for integrating legacy data, supporting broader digital transformation. The technology watching brief will ensure stakeholders remain informed of emerging innovations, enabling proactive adoption of new methods.
