Novel Unified Viewer for NGT Network Performance Twin

Abstract

As part of the National Gas Network Performance Twin program, this project is designed to demonstrate a scalable digital twin platform focused on improving infrastructure resilience, supporting hydrogen integration, and addressing climate adaptation across the National Transmission System (NTS). This initiative integrates three strategic components: Collaborative Visual Data Twin (CVDT) – a 3D BIM-based digital twin platform that visualises and monitors asset performance in real time. HyNTS Dataset Automation – a structured, automated geodatabase that supports hydrogen readiness assessments and asset integrity modelling. Flood Twin – a predictive flood simulation model that enables scenario-based risk analysis and resilience planning for Above Ground Installations (AGIs).

The new learning that is foreseen to be developed from this project but not limited to is:

  • The optimum platform for enabling our NTS data to be more easily viewed and understood
  • The potential for further developments of our BIM and 3D modelling activities
  • The method for data quality and security when managing NTS historic and live data in parallel
  • Development of opportunities in predictive maintenance and predicative asset management for scenario and business planning
  • The method for using digital technologies to improve our understanding of hydrogens impact on our assets
  • The design of a combined virtual and data system that enables advanced analytics and improved understanding of the NTS current state and potential state
  • Proposed methodologies for implementation of digital twins across the NTS assets
  • Dissemination of learning
